ABOUT OUR TEAM

Jordan Kessler

My name is Jordan Kessler, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist Associate. Throughout the last 4 years, I’ve worked in community mental health and university settings where I gained much of my experience working with individuals who are navigating problematic substance use and mental health challenges. I also enjoy working with clients struggling with self-esteem, relationship challenges, attachment issues, identity exploration, and life transitions. Additionally, I provide an LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse affirming space for clients to explore the intersections of their identity, the systems we operate under, and your mental health. My practice is collaborative, relatable, and nonjudgmental and I always attempt to tailor therapy to the needs and goals of the individual. I approach therapy through a harm reduction lens that honors each person’s autonomy and readiness for change. I use relational, experiential, and person-centered approaches to therapy while incorporating practical skill-building when helpful. I work with teens, adults, individuals, and couples, and strive to create a therapeutic relationship where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow. Outside of therapy, I spend much of my time playing roller derby, making art, and getting out and about with my dog, Tater. If you feel like I may be a good fit for you and would like to know more, I am happy to provide free 15 minute consultations via telehealth or you can call Southern Family Medicine to book an appointment with me. Kimberly Barney

I am a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with a passion for providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care across the lifespan. Before becoming a PMHNP, I worked as an Emergency Department nurse, where I gained valuable experience caring for patients from diverse backgrounds and in a variety of complex situations. Those experiences helped shape my commitment to treating the whole person and meeting patients where they are in their mental health journey.

I earned my nursing degree from East Carolina University, graduating with honors (summa cum laude). I enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults, and I have a particular interest in community mental health and addiction medicine. My goal is to create a supportive, collaborative environment where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered to achieve their mental wellness goals.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our two sons, and our dog, Rocky. As a family, we love being outdoors, whether we're hiking, traveling, or simply enjoying quality time together playing games. I believe that maintaining strong connections with family, community, and nature contributes to overall well-being, and I strive to bring that same balanced perspective into my practice every day.
